The Picture Book Wall (#2)

Hi!  Welcome back for the second installment of The Picture Book Wall!  I hope you have been having some wonderful storytimes with your littles recently.  I know I have been!

Here is this months picture book mash up.  I hope you enjoy!

Title: Pinkalicious
Author: Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann
Series: Pinkalicious
Publisher: HarperCollins
Publication Date: May 23, 2006
Source: Purchased
Rating: 3 stars

A cute little story about a girl who eats too many pink cupcakes and turns pink.  There really isn't much more substance to the story than that.  She spends a lot of the time begging her parents for more cupcakes (and sneaking some) until she turns a really deep shade of pink.  She has to eat her greens to return to her normal self.

This one is a great conversation starter for why it is important to eat your veggies.

Title: Stanley at School
Author: Linda Bailey
Illustrator: Bill Slavin
Series: Stanley
Publisher: Kids Can Press
Publication Date: August 1, 2015
Source: Netgalley
Rating: 4 stars

This is a really cute one!  Stanley is curious about school.  He knows that the kids always go and he wants to know why, so he talks a few of his friends into going to school with him.  Stanley and his friends get in and discover lunch!  They then get caught by the kids and then the janitor.

The illustrations are also a lot of fun, though there are a couple of pages that are rather plain and boring.  These pages would be an up close view of something in the story, such as the stairs or the side of the principal.  These particular pages really did not add anything to the story.

There really isn't much of a lesson in this story, but it does show the different topics that the kids get to learn in school: art, music, etc.  It is a great way to talk to a kid who is about to go off to school for the first time about what they may do there.

Title: Monkeys and Crocodiles Play Baseball
Author: Angel Krishna
Illustrator: Angel Alvarez
Series: Stand Alone
Publisher: Global Publishing Group LLC
Publication Date: July 8, 2015
Source: Netgalley
Rating: 4 stars

The monkeys want to play baseball, but they realize that they can't because they don't have any coconuts.  To get a coconut they have to cross the river.  To cross the river they have to ask the crocodiles - something that they have done many times before.

However, the crocodiles have had enough.  They want to play baseball too!  So they tell the monkeys no!  They tell the monkeys that they have to let them play or they wont help them cross.

It all turns out to be a misunderstanding.  The monkeys had no idea that the crocodiles wants to play with them!  They had never asked and just thought that the crocodiles weren't interested in their game.

This fun story is all about communication.  How it is important to let others know how you feel because if you don't you wont know that they have hurt feelings or that they want to play in the game too.  It really teaches a great lesson in a fun way.
